Homeless Man To Be Gifted Over $110,000 After Turning in a Backpack Full of Cash

A backpack full of cash and travelers checks was found by a homeless man by the name of Glen James recently, but instead of taking the money for himself, Glen took the sack to the local police department. He was rewarded with a special citation from the police, but one Virginia man heard the story and decided to build on the good deed.

Ethan Whittington’s idea to start a GoFundMe page for Glen has taken off like a rocket since it started just three days ago. What began with a goal of raising a few hundred bucks to help Glen get back on his feet has turned into more than $110,000 of donated money from over 4,500 people.

With this amount steadily growing to reach a newly goal of $250,000, Ethan has asked Glen how he would like to receive the funds. According to Gawker, Ethan said:

He told me with the amount of money he has received on the streets over the past few days, he was able to open a bank account. We discussed how he would like to receive the money and what he would like to use it for. We want to be very careful how this amount of money is handed over. He was up for the idea of having some guidance on what to do with this amount of money. He said he would like a week to think about it, and in the meantime, I will speak with a few financial folks to see how we can help him in a way that will positively influence the rest of his life.

“I’m so glad that a total stranger could be so kind,” Glen told WSFA, “Those donations will help me get a brand new start on life.”
