How Much Do the Bones Actors Make?

It has to be a whole lot of fun working on Bones. You get to play with creepy, slimy things, hang out in the Royal Diner when filming scenes, and probably make a good chunk of change to boot. Who wouldn't want to be on this show?

So, how much do these lucky actors make? The first thing you need to consider is that they are on a popular show. The slow economy has hit the television world much the same as it has the rest of the country, so even actors on popular TV shows aren't making what they were "back in the day." Of course, that doesn't mean they aren't doing well!

For example, a 2007 TV Guide article states that the salary for stars of a new TV series falls somewhere "between $75,000 and $125,000." That's per episode. The slow economy might have "hit" the TV world, but our favorite stars are still raking in the big bucks.

The stars of Bones are doing better than actors on other shows, primarily because Bones is in its sixth season and boasts a legion of devoted fans. David Boreanaz makes $200,000 per episode of the show, meaning he rakes in roughly $4,400,000 a year for a typical 22-episode season. By comparison, Castle's adorable Nathan Fillion "only" makes $100,000 an episode. Although popular with Bones fans (thanks to the Buffy/Joss Whedon connection), Castle is a younger show and therefore not as bankable.

There is no public information on what Emily Deschanel makes, but given that she plays the central character in Bones, we assume that her salary is a little higher than David Boreanaz's. On top of that, she's poised to direct her first episode later this season (which can bring in as much as $35,000 additional per episode), and she's listed as a producer. To get some idea of her possible salary, we can compare her to other female stars of popular crime procedurals. According to TV Guide, SVU's Mariska Hargitay makes $395,000 per episode, and CSI's Marg Helgenberger makes $375,000. Like Bones, both of these shows have been around for several years, and the characters these women play are integral to the show. Bottom line? Emily Deschanel probably makes anywhere from $200,000 to 300,000 per episode. A nice chunk of change, to be sure! Knowing this makes us smile, because we love seeing our fave actors makin' bank on the small screen.
