In case you missed it, there’s a new chiseled jawline on the American Idol judging panel. Harry Connick, Jr more than holds his own alongside the Aussie hottie Keith Urban and the always lovely Jennifer Lopez. He’s funny. He’s smart. He’s, well, he’s Harry.
The 46-year-old performer previously served as a mentor on Idol and did such an amazing job, the show’s producers knew they had to have him (something we’ve known since Will & Grace). Harry, however, wasn’t so sure.
“It’s a fun show,” he told E! News when rumors started flying Idol had come a-callin' last spring. “It’s been talked about before, who knows what’ll happen in the future. What I’ve done thus far on the show has been really fun, so I’ve had a great time.”
But Harry, seasoned entertainer that he is, knows a commitment like Idol can’t just pay in kicks and giggles. What’s this hunk’s price tag for giving a much-needed breath of fresh air to Season 13? Just, you know, millions and millions of dollars.
Fox hasn’t released a specific salary for Harry but we estimate it’s somewhere in the $5 million range. That’s what veteran judge Keith reportedly costs the show with neither man likely getting anywhere near Jennifer’s astonishing $17.5 million because J.Lo.
After last night’s premiere, however, we wouldn’t be surprised if Harry’s people are already in talks for a raise. Although the show tanked in the ratings, the new judge got rave reviews with Rolling Stone saying he “steals the spotlight” while Entertainment Weekly labels him “delicious.” You just can’t buy advertising like that. Well, you can but it’ll cost you.
