How We Want The Vampire Diaries To End

Though The Vampire Diaries will probably run through at least a sixth season, it will eventually have to come to an end. Executive producers Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson already have an ending in mind, but what do we want for the epic finale to one of our favorite shows of all time? Here are our five wishes!

We’re less concerned with who Elena ends up with than we are with how she feels about it. And whether it is Stefan or Damon (or neither) who wins her heart for good, we just want to see her find some peace and consistency. Over the course of the last few years, Elena has lost her parents, her aunt, multiple friends, and her own humanity. The girl has never really been able to find her footing in the world and in a story that, when it comes down to it, is really about coming-of-age we want to see Elena emerge into adulthood and finally find some peace.

The sibling relationship between Stefan and Damon might just be our favorite dynamic on the show and we’re going to look for a fitting ending to their 150-year-long bromance. In many ways, it has been the ups and down that these two go through that has kept us so compelled even more so than their respective relationships with Katherine and Elena. They are arguably the loves of one another’s lives and we want to see an ending for these two that pays tribute to their rich, rocky history.

Though many characters have met their untimely ends on TVD, death is usually reserved for the supporting characters. Don’t get us wrong those deaths still hurt but we’ve never really feared for the lives of Elena, Damon, or Stefan. Even more so given the way death tends not to stick on TVD. We hate to say it, but we’d like to see one of the three main characters pay the ultimate and, with all the life-or-death situations they’ve been a part of, realistic price for all of the damage they’ve caused. Maybe we’ll regret this wish, but in a show that dances so carelessly with the theme of death we’d like to see it treat the stake with some weight and seriousness in the season finale, and we think that means killing off one of the central three. For real.

What do you hope to see in the TVD ending? Share your suggestions in the comments below!
