We know that both Gaius Charles (Shane Ross) and Tessa Ferrer (Leah Murphy) are leaving Grey's Anatomy after this week's finale, and while Leah has been given a good reason to depart — aka she was fired last week — we're still not sure why we won't be seeing Shane at Grey Sloan Memorial anymore.
At this point, there are still plenty of ways Shane could be written out come Thursday. Right now, we have four main theories about how he could go.
Mental breakdown. Shane has been on the verge of breakdown all season, more or less, and with a big disaster headed Grey Sloan Memorial's way in the finale, it's possible the stress will become too much and he'll realize he needs to leave the program to sort out all of his post-Mousey guilt.
He gets fired. Hey, just because Leah is fired doesn't mean Shane is safe. He's already on thin ice after what happened with Alex's dad. Another major mistake could be enough to send him packing alongside Leah.
Cristina scoops him up. Of course, not all the possibilities are bad. Cristina has been Shane's mentor in the past; maybe she convinces him to come work with her at her new job. We're not quite sure if that makes sense logistically (does her new hospital have a residency program?), but it's not out of the realm of possibility in Grey's land.
He dies. Sorry to say, but this seems very, very possible. It's a Grey's finale, which means death is in the air. Shane might be the unlucky one this year.
