Ian Somerhalder Says “I Love You” — Who’s He Talking About?

Fact: vampires love New Orleans. Between Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder’s (Damon) latest tweet and the goings-on of the entire Mikaelson clan on The Originals, we think we can say that with a fair amount of certainty. But, if you still don’t believe us, check out what Ian had to say about the magical city!

“Happy Mardi Gras!!!! I'm Missing you today New Orleans!!!!! I love you…” Ian tweeted yesterday, expressing his deep-held affection for the city. The Louisiana native had been in NOLA only days prior to act as co-Grand Marshall of the Krewe of Endymion parade through the French Quarter. The actor tossed Mardi Gras beads to screaming fans, hung with Waldo, and even tried his hand at trombone during the epic festivities — all while looking exceedingly dapper in a three-piece suit, bow-tie, fedora, and TVD necklace. Unfortunately for him, Ian couldn’t be in New Orleans for the big day. But, fortunately for us, it was because he was in Atlanta filming new episodes of TVD.

From all accounts, Ian had an absolute ball in New Orleans. He chronicled the entire thing for Esquire, writing of the five-hour parade: “Every minute of this parade was filled and fueled by new sets of screaming happy people. It's amazing, the amount of love we get from all who watch this TV show. I'd say the energy was cranked up to about an 11. I'm so grateful to Warner Brothers and the CW for making over 20,000 TVD beads for me and the gang to toss to everyone.” Sounds fang-tastic!

Catch the next episode of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, March 6 at 8 p.m. ET on the CW.
