Ian Somerhalder Says No Doppelganger For Damon Salvatore

With all of the look-alikes running around Mystic Falls these days, it’s getting hard to remember if we’re watching supernatural series The Vampire Diaries or clone drama Orphan Black! Are there more doppelgangers waiting in the wings, waiting to be revealed — perhaps one of the Damon Salvatore variety? Read on to find out what Ian Somerhalder has to say on the subject!

Ian told the Los Angeles Times that there will "hopefully never" be a doppelganger for Damon. His reasoning? "I don’t think the world could handle two of Damon. That would be scary." Fair point, Ian. Though, we’re not sure how well the world is handling an Elena and a Katherine or a Stefan and a Silas, either.

We also don’t think Ian has much to worry about. It seems like the Petrova and Silas doppelgangers are worked into the mythology of the show. They are created to counter an imbalance in the universe. Doppelgangers do not seem to be thrown willy-nilly into the narrative by the TVD cast and crew. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if Stefan is the last doppelganger we see — though, depending on how long TVD runs for, who knows what could happen?

Make it to Season 10, and we’ll probably find out Caroline’s beloved cat, Sir Mittens, is actually a doppelganger of the infamous Grumpy Cat line. Wouldn’t that be awesome?

Do you want to see a Damon doppelganger? Why or why not? Sound off in the comments below!
