Ian Somerhalder Teases Vampire Diaries Fans in Wake of Damon’s “Death”

Ian Somerhalder is a devilish sort. The Vampire Diaries star recently took to Twitter to tease fans about his character’s apparent death in the Season 5 finale. Of course, we know Ian will be back to play Damon Salvatore in Season 6 — but that hasn’t kept Ian from getting a little of good-natured teasing in in the mean time...

“All right you amazing teens-Im just realizing that this may be my last time at http://www.teenchoiceawards.com for #TVD Vote away-ill see you there,” Ian tweeted yesterday, implying that his character has made his last quip. Ian is nominated for Choice TV Actor in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy category at the 2014 Teen Choice Awards. He is up against TVD co-star Paul Wesley (Stefan), former co-star and current Originalsstar Joseph Morgan(Klaus), Once Upon a Time’s Josh Dallas (Prince Charming), and Teen Wolf’s Tyler Posey.

This isn’t the first time Ian has toyed with our emotions over Damon’s apparent death. Earlier this summer, he shared a photo of Damon’s gravestone, along with the caption: “Rest in Peace Damon Salvatore. #GameOver.” Thankfully, executive producer Julie Plec doesn’t like to tease as much as Ian. She confirmed to Entertainment Weekly: “We will definitely see Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham on the show. I mean, there’s a million different ways that you can do that. But as far as in what context — how, why, and where? — that’s part of the mystery.”

As long as that mystery involves Damon, we’re so there.
