It’s a known fact that Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder is the sexiest actor-turned-activist of today, but in an interview with Huffington Post Live, he couldn’t escape an even more important topic: 50 Shades of Grey casting.

When asked by the interviewer about the controversial decision to cast Charlie Hunnam as the titular Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as the fictional Anastasia Steele, Ian didn’t directly say anything about the cast, but he did let us know the probable reason why he didn’t get the part — there are even rumors that Ian wasn’t considered for the role.

“Guys, I’m on a TV show that shoots 10 months a year, and I’m so unbelievably grateful for all the support and all the cheering and all the love,” he said. Well, he does have a point. Shooting for The Vampire Diaries is a full-time job and even though Damon Salvatore doesn’t have a doppelganger (yet!), that’s still one extremely tight production schedule.

Ian said he is “not surprised” that he didn’t make the cut and even went on to say that he’s totally cool with the fact that he didn’t get it. “You read all these blogs that say, ‘Ian Somerhalder angry, livid, he’s not in 50 Shades of Grey.’ No, no, no, no. There’s none of that,” Ian revealed.

It’s good to know that Ian doesn’t harbor any ill feelings about the casting news. And good news: he promised to come back on the show and talk about whether or not he wanted the gig. We’re already looking forward to that episode!
