Though Ian Somerhalder’s full-time job may be playing a supernatural hunk on The Vampire Diaries, he moonlights as a philanthropist.

His nonprofit, the Ian Somerhalder Foundation, “aims to empower, educate and collaborate with people and projects to positively impact the planet and its creatures.” So what recent IS Foundation success has Ian smiling?

“You did it, we won a challenge! THANK YOU! Plz spread awareness we truly want to achieve meaningful goals!” Ian tweeted on December 31, after the IS Foundation won a bonus challenge in the Crowdrise Holiday Challenge. The Grand Prize winner of the contest will win $100,000 for their charity. The contest started in November and will end on January 9, with large donation prizes going to the top three charities, as well as smaller awards going to the other contestants.

The IS Foundation is currently in 13th place, with roughly $32,000 raised. However, as the winner of one of the weekly challenges, the nonprofit has raised an additional $6,000 in donations. Well done, Ian and company! Those who donate to the campaign will be entered to win a pair of drumsticks signed by Ian himself , but the real reward will be donating to a good cause.

According to the foundation’s Crowdrise profile: “ISF supporters are a kick ass bunch of peeps. From young children to Grandparents, standing together, supporting each other with each generations' strengths, collectively combining passions, skills and leadership into one massive population of change makers.” Sounds like a worthy group to be a part of!
