The Vampire Diaries Season 5 is almost done filming, which means one thing for star Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore): world travels! We don’t blame him — Mystic Falls is a bummer and can get pretty claustrophobic. What are his plans for the next few months?

“The Vampire Diaries wrapping season 5 in 8 more work days-8 more wake ups! Take a break from Damon-explore the world-then do it all over again,” Ian tweeted Wednesday, obviously kind of excited for the chance to take off into the sunset. After months of filming, we think he deserves it!

Ian is quite the world traveler. Last year, he jetted off to China right after Christmas. On this trip, we also got a glimpse at the all-important passport. He captioned an Instagram photo of himself with the document: “Do you know this guy? Would you let him into your country? Hmmm-that is the question... An airline named after my home-the Mississippi River Delta, taking me to China... Very cool.” That was actually Ian’s second trip to China in the last few years. In 2012, he also took a post-holiday trek with then girlfriend Nina Dobrev to the Asian country, stopping to take pictures with fans after the long flight.

Of course, travel and work aren’t always mutually exclusive. Last May, much of the TVD cast traveled to Barcelona for a TVD convention. After hanging in the Spanish city with many of his castmates, Ian popped over to Amsterdam before heading to L.A. That jet-setting enough for you?

Where do you think Ian will travel next? Sound off in the comments below!

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
