It finally (kind of) happened, Vampire Diaries fans! The ever-sexy Ian Somerhalder walked into the 2014 Creative Arts Emmy Awards empty-handed but he walked out with a brand new addition for his mantel! While he wasn’t able to score some gold for his CW show, the Showtime series he appeared on, Years of Living Dangerously, snagged a win!

“#YEARSPROJECT on Showtime wow the Emmy!!!! Wow! Thank you so much for the support! I'm smiling ear to ear right now!” Ian captioned an Instagram photo of him doing a cute move with girlfriend Nikki Reed while leaving the Nokia Theatre that night. “Doing a little victory dance right now with @iamnikkireed, @thejram & @polivierjr.”

As per usual, Ian’s message continued and he gushed about the show. “This story, Years of Living Dangerously, is so important. As David Gelber put it just now, this story needs to be told and that it’s time to stop talking about climate change and start DOING something about it. We will no longer stand for elected state and federal officials as well as corporate America not addressing this and creating action. Thank you Showtime and the entire Years of Living Dangerously team for doing this. I’m so proud to be a part of this and thank you Kim Klingler and @thejram for being such instrumental components of this production! Thank you all so much! Love, Ian.” What a guy!

Years of Living Dangerously tied with American Masters in the “Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series” category and lost to Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey for “Outstanding Writing for Nonfiction Programming.”

We just love that a project Ian feels so strongly about was recognized by the Television Academy. Now, time to get some recognition for a certain group of supernatural beings in Mystic Falls. Oh well, there’s always next year!

Hit the comments and send your congrats to Ian!
