Inside Cory Monteith’s “Beautiful” and “Sad” Memorial: Glee Stars Open Up
On Thursday, July 25, the cast and crew of Glee gathered in Los Angeles to celebrate the life of the late Cory Monteith (Finn), who died suddenly and unexpectedly on July 13. Fox released an official statement about the memorial that day, and now People has even more details on the tearful, emotional gathering.
Over 150 people attended the private event, which was held at the Paramount Studio Lot where Glee is filmed, and they all wore black ribbons as a tribute to Cory. Cory’s girlfriend Lea Michele (Rachel) was present, but made sure to stay completely out of sight of any cameras.
"They were somber," an eyewitness tells People, noting that many left the memorial with puffy, red eyes. "There were a lot of production staff and crew too and most everyone was dressed in black."
After the event, TMZ caught up with Jane Lynch (Sue) while the actress was walking her dog in Los Angeles, and the Glee star took a short moment to talk about the event.
“It was beautiful. I’m still really sad, but it was beautiful. Nice to all be together again.”
Ashley Fink, who played McKinley’s wonderfully in-your-face Lauren Zizes, took to Twitter later that day to share her fond memories. “Cory truly was one of the kindest and most special [people] of all time. Equal parts old soul and big kid. I'll love and remember him forever,” she tweeted.
She soon added, “I think I'll miss that grin most of all. Sending love to all you gleeks, your support means the world.”
