Baby-kissing is a well-known ploy politicians use to curry favor — but something tells us Mariah Carey was the one to initiate a recent meet-and-greet between President Obama and her 2-year-old daughter, Monroe, in Washington, D.C.

The Art of Letting Go singer hit up our nation's capital on Friday, December 6, to grace the 2013 National Christmas Tree Lighting with an epic rendition of her now-legendary holiday tune "All I Want For Christmas Is You" — joining The Avett Brothers, Aretha Frankle, Janelle Monae, Train, and other musical acts.

As Glee's Jane Lynch, the host of the event, brought the show to a close and Obama bid farewell to the crowd, Mariah hoisted Monroe onto her hip to meet the Leader of the Free World — who beamed as he patted Monroe on the back.

In the replay of the broadcast, which you can watch here, you can even hear the Commander in Chief say "Hey!" as he meets the toddler (around 56:10) — and Mariah say, "That's Obama!"

"What an honor to kick off the holiday season with the First Family," Mariah wrote as she posted a photo of the encounter to Instagram that night.

Stars: they're just like us! Or, you know, not.
