Game of Thrones Introduces Red Ale

The night is dark and full of terrors, and also beer. Brewery Ommegang has just released the third Game of Thrones-themed beer in their partnership with HBO: Fire and Blood Red Ale.

The beer hit store shelves on March 31, one week before Season 4 of GoT debuts on HBO. If you’d like to grab yourself a bottle you’d better act quickly though, Ommegang’s two previous GoT beers, Iron Throne Blonde Ale and Take the Black Stout, both sold at a very rapid pace.

Fire and Blood Red Ale is of course Targaryen inspired, being named after the Targaryen House words, and is available with three different collector’s labels, one for each of Danaerys’ dragons: Viserion, Rhaegal, and Drogon. “Once again, we really worked hard to ensure the beer tied nicely into the themes of the show,” Ommegang Brewmaster Phil Leinhart says. “Obviously the use of ancho chilies pays homage to the dragons, but the use of rye and spelt wheat links back to the Dothraki people that Daenerys is leading they are nomads of the plains and these are the grains that would be well at home there.”

Clearly a lot of thought went into producing this beer, and HBO couldn’t be more pleased. “Our partnership with Brewery Ommegang has been a huge success, and we look forward to Fire and Blood being the hottest entry yet,” HBO Vice President of Global Licensing Josh Goodstadt says. “Ommegang has consistently delivered superior quality beers that reflect a deep passion for the show and open up an entirely new facet of the series to its legion of fans and beer lovers alike.”

Fire and Blood Red Ale is available nationwide now for a suggested retail price of $8.50 for a 750ML bottle.
