Iron Maiden Drummer With Multiple Sclerosis Dies at Age 56
Clive Burr, drummer for Iron Maiden from 1979 to 1982, died on March 12 at age 56.
Iron Maiden posted the sad news on their official website on March 13: "We are deeply saddened to report that Clive Burr passed away last night. He had suffered poor health for many years after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and died peacefully in his sleep at home."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, after he left the band in 1982, Clive played with other bands including Trust, Elixir, and Praying Mantis, before being diagnosed with MS in 1994. “I kept dropping things,” he told Classic Rock Magazine in 2011. “I couldn’t grip properly. I could barely keep hold of my sticks.”
Band member Steve Harris said, on the band’s site, "This is terribly sad news. Clive was a very old friend of all of us. He was a wonderful person and an amazing drummer who made a valuable contribution to Maiden in the early days when we were starting out. This is a sad day for everyone in the band and those around him and our thoughts and condolences are with his partner Mimi and family at this time."
