“Meanwhile The Originals still has 6 days and 3 season 2 eps to shoot before we get a break. Hence my impending death-slash-mental breakdown,” Julie tweeted Saturday, revealing that The Originals would film some of its Season 2 episodes before taking a filming hiatus. Interesting!
As far as we can tell, there are several possible explanations for this move. Firstly, it makes some sense to alternate the shooting schedules for TVD and The Originals at least slightly, given that they share an executive producer in Julie Plec. By ensuring that at least some of The Originals will be filmed while TVD is on break, Julie will have the unique opportunity to devote her attention to one rather than two shows.
Secondly, this could have something to do with series star Daniel Gillies (Elijah), who has a starring role not only on The Originals, but also on Canadian drama Saving Hope. The Originals had to get clever in its first season to accommodate Daniel’s commitment to Saving Hope, having Klaus dagger his character in the first episode and keeping him confined to a coffin for several episodes. Hopefully, this filming move will ensure that Elijah can appear in every Season 2 episode. Although, one can never guarantee that Klaus won’t dagger his siblings.

The Originals airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
