Tragically, Ian’s reasons for returning to his home state of Louisiana have nothing to do with the TVD spin-off (this time), but he does have a super sweet explanation for the trip. Ian will be the Celebrity Monarch of the Mystic Krewe of Mardi Paws dog parade. Yes, you read that right. It’s a walking parade full of dogs and their caretakers, put on to raise money for three volunteer nonprofits. Sounds right up Ian’s alley! He is a fan both of dogs and giving back to the community. In fact, the Ian Somerhalder Foundation is even a sponsor of the event.
Dogs and their caretakers? We just hope this means the pup Ian rescued near the TVD stages last year and adopted will also be on hand for the event. Does Nietzsche like flying? Would it be too traumatic? If so, we’re sure Ian will be thinking of her and will be sure to share his affection for all of lives furry creatures with the other pups in the parade. According to The Time Picayune, nearly 400 dogs and their owners walked in last year’s event!
According to another article by the local newspaper, Ian will be in the thick of it with the other walkers: "Ian insisted on walking," parade organizer Denise Gutnisky said, adding that Ian is scheduled to walk with one of the all-female marching groups of Carnival, the Pussyfooters. Sounds like a lovely way to spend the day. We know how much Ian loves his parades!
