Is Juan Pablo Galavis Using Daughter Camila as an Excuse for His Behavior?

When something breaks, you’re late for a party, or there’s a mess in the kitchen, it’s totally fair game to blame the baby. But when you’re a 32-year-old single parent looking for love on The Bachelor, is it fair to drag your 4-year-old into it, especially if you’re not consistent about how or when you change your mind because of her?

Let’s investigate the case of Juan Pablo Galavis, Venezuelan hunk extraordinaire, who has been tasked with the arduous assignment of whittling down a beautiful bevy of ladies to a lucky uno. On one hand, he seems like a dedicated dad who has told the ladies on his show outright that he has a daughter and she’s his No. 1 priority. Awesome. But as for how that should impact his role on the show? That’s up for debate.

It seems like he could either go with his constant line, which is that Camila (at four) is definitely not going to be watching her papa on a dating show in which he kisses a ton of girls. That would be confusing for her, especially considering he already said she’s never seen him kiss a girl. OK, so that’s that, right?

The other way he could go is be a total prude the whole season, and only kiss the woman he chooses in the end. Which is, well, totally loco. This isn’t a show that vilifies a little romantic canoodling… until now.

What’s going on? Well, this: Juan Pablo kissed Clare Crawley in Season 18, Episode 2. He kissed Sharleen Joynt and Andi Dorfman in Episode 3. We can’t remember when exactly he first kissed Nikki Ferrell (a little help?), but now they make out all the time. He definitely made out with Cassandra Ferguson on her 1-on-1 in Episode 3 also… Oh, and Chelsie Webster in the same week. He finally kissed Renee Oteri in Episode 5, much to her delight, but she was one of the last gals to get a besito. All fair.

Except for one thing… He told Lauren Solomon in Episode 4 that he wasn’t going to kiss any more girls because of his daughter, which wasn’t true, since he kissed Clare a few minutes later. He also pulled Clare — you know, the one he’s kissed a whole bunch at this point — into his private suite to make out in the pool in Episode 5. Later, they hooked up (an indeterminate amount) in the ocean in Vietnam. Then, he told her that all that was wrong. Why? Because of his daughter.

I didn't think it was a good example for my daughter to watch daddy going into the ocean with a girl at night. I already had a great day with her and even taking her to my pool was something that I should not have done,” he wrote in his Bachelor blog.

Uh, what? He’s already said multiple times, that his daughter isn’t watching the show. So what the hell is he talking about? Why does his daughter come up every time he doesn’t want to just say, “I am a grown man who makes decisions and stands by them”? Why put it all on a 4-year-old?

What do you think of the situation: Is Juan Pablo conveniently using his daughter to brush off responsibility for his actions, or is he genuinely concerned that his little girl is going to watch him make out with girls on the show and get upset?

I love Juan Pablo!

I'm over him
