Isaiah Washington Plays Gay Teen’s Loving Father in New Film Blackbird

Grey's Anatomy alum Isaiah Washington is turning over a new leaf. The former Seattle Grace doc, who left the show in 2007 amid controversy over alleged homophobic slurs he made in reference to co-star T.R. Knight, may be trying to prove that he's a newly-enlightened man with his new film role in Blackbird.

In the forthcoming film, Isaiah plays the "sympathetic father of a talented teen singer who is gay and struggling with it in a small Southern Baptist town," according to Deadline.

The 50-year-old also helped produce the film, which was written and directed by Noah's Arc producer Patrik-Ian Polk.

It's one of many irons Isaiah has in the fire at the moment: He's also earning rave reviews for his role in the true-crime drama Blue Caprice, and next year he'll portray the leader of the human race in The CW's The 100. Deadline also reports that he is working on an outdoorsy adventure reality series.

If this is the start of a career and PR turnaround, we're willing to give the former Preston Burke another chance. Maybe Grey's creator Shonda Rhimes will do the same and bring Burke back in time to woo Cristina away for Sandra Oh’s exit.

Will you watch Isaiah’s new movie? Sound off below!
