Grey's Anatomy

Isaiah Washington Returning to Grey’s Anatomy After Controversial Firing (VIDEO)

Here's some news that we definitely did not see coming! Isaiah Washington hasn't been seen on Grey's Anatomy since Season 3, when his character, Preston Burke, left Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) at the altar. Now, with Sandra leaving the show, Isaiah will be popping by later in Season 10 to wish her well, as we had previously reported.

And as surprising as it may be to have Burke back on the show after all this time, Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rimes explains that Burke's presence is needed to give Cristina closure. "Burke is vital to her journey," Shonda says. "He gives her story that full-circle moment we need to properly say goodbye to our beloved Cristina Yang."

Isaiah was a series regular on Grey's until he left the show after allegedly making anti-gay comments about then-cast member T.R. Knight (George O'Malley) in 2007. Since then, Isaiah has appeared in a number of indie movies, including last year's Blue Caprice about the deadly D.C. sniper. He co-stars on the CW's post-apocalyptic drama series The 100, premiering next week.

So how will Cristina react to seeing Burke? Well, given that he got skipped out on their wedding, we can't imagine that the two are ever going to be besties. Still, we can't wait to see how their reunion goes!

Are you looking forward to seeing Burke again?
