If there’s one guy in Hollywood we want to take advice from, it’s Justin Timberlake. Justin’s done it all — singing, acting, teaming up with Jimmy Fallon to educate us on the history of rap. And since he’s managed to find mega success since his days as a spiky-headed member of N’Sync, when this 32-year-old Hollywood powerhouse imparts wisdom on you, you listen!
Justin, who’s covering GQ’s Men of the Year issue, has finally revealed the secret to his success: not being cool.
“Being cool is about keeping your blood pressure steady,” Justin said. “So no. Don’t be cool. Be passionate. Be dedicated. Be tenacious. Be uncompromising. Be pissed. Be happy. Be sad.”
To Justin, the idea of “being cool” can only mean one thing: missed opportunities.
“I’ve made a career out of doing things I should not be doing,” Justin added. “Because being cool would have meant I passed up on those opportunities. If you do that, it’s because you’re afraid. And what are you afraid of, you know?”
And if Justin let fear get in his way, he would have never founded Napster — wait, maybe that was just The Social Network, and not real life.
Either way, Justin may not be cool but he’s obviously The Man. Even Jennifer Lawrence has a crush on him — so much so that teenage Jen almost threw up at the thought of her love for him, as you do when you think of your celebrity crushes. Same, Jen. Same.
