Iwan Rheon on Playing Ramsay Snow

In the Season 3 finale of Game of Thrones (Season 3, Episode 10: "Mhysa") the identity of Theon’s tormentor was finally revealed to be whom we had suspected all along: he’s Ramsay Snow, the bastard son of Roose Bolton.

Actor Iwan Rheon, who portrays Ramsay, talked to Access Hollywood about keeping his character's identity a secret all season.

"I think it’s kind of a pride to keep it as secret as possible," Iwan explained. "I think, as much as people wanna know, it’s better for them not to know and so when they do watch the show, it has so much more impact. … But, obviously not being able to say who my character is, is a bit of a pain in the arse [laughs].” We can imagine it would be! Up until this point, Rheon’s character had only been referred to as “Boy” in the credits.

Ramsay Snow is one sick puppy, and Rheon also talked about his inspiration for playing such a sinister character, saying,"One of the keys for me was joy he gets from doing what he does. … He really enjoys it. You could have played it in different ways and he could have been like, just a vicious, horrible, no joy, like dead inside [man], but he’s not, he’s really enjoying it. This is what he likes doing." Like we said, sick puppy.

Ramsay's main task this season has been torturing Theon Greyjoy, and Rheon reveals which sequence was the toughest to film. "It was quite weird doing the finger, cutting off the finger, flaying the finger, but it was strangely technical when we were filming it… which is quite a relief because I was worried as to how I was gonna feel doing something like that because it’s horrific.” Ah yes, the flaying of the pinky. Those Boltons do love their flaying.
