Jada Pinkett Smith’s Stepfather Reveals Family’s Drug-Filled Past

Jada Pinkett may have shocked fans when she opened up about struggling with “many addictions” in a recent Facebook post, but her story of addiction pales in comparison to her dysfunctional upbringing.

Jada’s stepfather, Warren A. Brown, revealed to Celebuzz that while he was married to Jada’s mother, Adrienne Banfield-Jones, the couple was using drugs on a regular basis — often in front of Jada, who was just 8 when Warren and Adrienne tied the knot.

“At times, I felt guilty,” Warren revealed. “I remember just the three of us in the house together and I knew I was high and so was her mother.

"She didn’t know though, she was too young to recognize it. She didn’t see us doing anything. But I felt really bad because I thought this little girl deserves better than her parents [being] addicted."

Warren, who now works as an attorney, did not disclose what drugs his ex-wife used, but admitted to regularly using cocaine when Jada was a child, a decision he now questions, particularly in light of Jada’s own recent addiction confession.

“I don’t really blame myself, but I think about a couple things. I question that if I had not divorced myself from them, whether or not she would have fallen into addictions. And if I had been around I may have witnessed it and been able to pull her out of it.”

Although Warren’s new life bears little resemblance to the drug-fueled party it once was, he still thinks back with fondness — and regret — for the life he lost.

“I tend to think that if I was there, I could have provided a positive role model,” he said.

"I loved that little girl.”
