Jaime King Shares a Breastfeeding Photo and Says It “Should Not Be Taboo” (VIDEO)

Update (June 11, 2014):

If Jaime’s caption for her tweet didn’t explain her reasoning behind sharing the candid breastfeeding photo, let her elaborate: “I feel like now that I’m a mother, I realize that there’s a huge schism out there; that women feel judged because of what they choose to do and how they choose to feed their child. Why should we hide it?” she explained to People on June 11.

Since posting the photo, Jaime says she’s been receiving positive response after positive response including many from mothers who are “so grateful because there have been people out in the media being very judgmental, saying women have to breastfeed, or have to do this or have to do that.” Jaime says she feels “a responsibility as somebody who’s in the spotlight and as a public figure to let these women know they are not alone.” Job well done, Jaime!

Original story (June 10, 2014):

Jaime King has some feelings about breastfeeding, y’all. The Hart of Dixie star took to Instagram recently to share a sweet snapshot of her son, James Knight, breastfeeding back when he was just an itty bitty bambino. It’s very much à la Gisele Bundchen, if we say so ourselves!

“#JamesKnight is now 8 months old! These are the moments a mother lives for,” the the 35-year-old momma captioned the photo. “Breastfeeding should not be taboo — and bottle feeding should not be judged — it’s ALL fun for the whole family.” #Preach

Jaime isn’t the first celebrity to speak out about this “taboo” on breastfeeding. Gisele (who posted that iconic Instagram photo of her “multi-tasking”), The Big Bang Theory’s Mayim Bialik, Teen Mom’s Kailyn Lowry, and more are all in Jaime’s company.

Hollywood moms have been pretty vocal about preaching the benefits of breastfeeding, saying that it shouldn’t carry a negative perception. Mayim even addressed the issue after she received backlash from breastfeeding her son in public.

“Our culture has a very, very bizarre relationship with breasts,” she told The Huffington Post. “We have a tremendous obsession with sexualizing, absolutely, and breastfeeding is not a sexual act.”

Mayim went on to add, “I think anywhere you give a bottle, you breastfeed. I don’t believe you need to cover up a baby [breastfeeding] any more than you need to cover up a baby drinking a bottle.”

We’re so glad these ladies are openly talking about the topic, but do you agree with them? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
