On May 19, Team Blake Shelton singer Jake Worthington gave a sweet country rendition performance of “Right Here Waiting” by Richard Marx. Following in the same vein of last week’s performance (where Jake performed a country cover of a classic ‘80s hit), Blake gave Jake the Richard Marx hit tune as he thought the Texan teen would be able to connect on a deeper level with the song.
Hitting the song with microphone in hand, Jake showcased his sweet southern tone on the classic rock ballad. Usher told the young crooner that he had a spotless performance being able to identify with the heavy emotion in a record like that. Shakira said that she was learning to enjoy these “country-fied” versions of pop rock ballads, and loved that Jake was able to take old songs and make them new. She also noticed that Jake’s technique has changed for the better, — something Adam Levine also noticed. Both Adam and Shakira told Jake they enjoyed the new nuances in his sound, and Adam even asked Jake to share his techniques with him! Blake Shelton told Jake that in all six seasons of The Voice, he has never seen a truer, more genuine, and honest storyteller when it came to country music and thanked Jake for bringing back the good ol’ feeling of narrative country music.
