Remember when James Franco ever so awkwardly posted that NSFW selfie on Instagram last week and then promptly deleted it. And when you combine the photo with James’s other recent Instagram exploits, we just have one question: Why?
Don’t worry, everybody — James has answers for us. As it turns out, he’s just trying to give the people what they want. When he sat down with David Letterman Thursday, he came armed with an explanation.
“To me it’s just a fun thing. It’s something I don’t put a ton of thought into, but it gets a lot of attention,” James reasons about his Instagram addiction. “I have a lot of followers on Instagram.”
James isn’t wrong. His account has well over two million loyal followers, despite the fact that his posts can occasionally be bizarre… like the random nearly nude mirror pic, for starters.
“It’s not like I’m putting that on billboards,” James says. “Ostensibly, Instagram is for my fans … It’s what the people want!”
We’re sure there are people out there who were thrilled to see James almost bare all, but unfortunately, those are not the people who have given the Palo Alto star so much press about his recent social media misadventures. Like the time he tried to use it as a matchmaking service with a 17-year-old fan.
And if you don’t like it, James doesn’t care. He offers up one piece of advice for those who would rather not see one million selfies James posts from bed.
“If you don’t want to see it, don’t follow me,” he advises. Fair enough!
