James Kennedy on His Relationship With Kristen Doute: “We’re Just Hanging Out” — Exclusive

One of the biggest bombshells — if not the biggest — to come out of the Vanderpump Rules Season 2 reunion was that Kristen Doute had moved on from Tom Sandoval and was dating 21-year-old SUR busboy James Kennedy.

But James is more than a busboy — he’s also a rising DJ with a spot at one of the world’s most notorious labels, Interscope Records (listen to his music here). This Brit has found musical inspiration everywhere from the EDM scene of Ibiza, Spain to the halls of Beverly Hills High.

Wetpaint Entertainment exclusively caught up with James after the the Vanderpump Rules reunion to get the dish on his relationship with Kristen, Kristen and Tom’s rumored hookup in NYC last month, and whether or not he’d join the yet-to-be confirmed Season 3.

Wetpaint Entertainment: How did you and Kristen take your relationship out of the friend zone?

James Kennedy: It was a little bit before Christmastime, basically. We were hanging out a lot, especially late nights. For a while it was definitely hanging out as just friends, and I guess one thing led to another after a couple bottles of wine and … it happened.

Are you two officially dating now or just hanging out?

We’re just hanging out, nothing’s official yet. Why spoil a great friendship? I don’t think either of us are in the time or place for that, but we’re definitely having fun and hanging out.

Does Kristen's past worry you at all?

I wasn’t there for any of that, so instead of living in the past, I kind of live in the future and try not to dwell on these things. People make mistakes and, quite frankly, nobody’s perfect. So no, it doesn’t bother me.
