James Maslow: “We’re Disappointed” — Peta and I “Wanted to Win” Dancing With the Stars (VIDEO)

It’s a sad morning for Team Jeta fans who expected to see their favorites, James Maslow and Peta Murgatroyd, compete in tonight’s Dancing With the Stars Season 18 Finale.

James and Peta got the first perfect score of the season and seemed to improve each week. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba even called James the smartest and most versatile contestant. But DWTS voters went in a different direction last week, and Jeta was forced to leave at the final four.

James tweeted after the first night of the Finals, "Thank you to all the #TeamJeta fans who helped @PetaMurgatroyd and I get so far! It's been an amazing journey. And you were all a big part!" Peta wrote, "#teamjeta forever!!! Thank you so much for everyone who voted for us all season!"

After the show, James talked to Glamour about the spring season’s many shocking eliminations, including his own with Peta. “This season has almost been annoying at how shocking it's been,” James said. “Especially the last few weeks, everybody is going, ‘What?!’ and that was us tonight. I'm proud that was us because that means people [are] saying, ‘Why? They've been working their asses off!’ That's what we've done, and after that, we can't control any of it. Yeah, we're disappointed. We're really competitive and wanted to win and believed we had a shot at winning up until we left. At this point, what can we do?”

What they can do now is dance again tonight on the Finale. James admitted, last night, that they had no idea what they were going to be dancing but, “It's going to be the sloppiest dance you've ever seen! I'm just being honest right now!” Hey, if they were still in the competition they’d have to do this 24-Hour Fusion Challenge as the last dance, so no matter what they’d have to get back out there. It’s not the same, though.

James also told Glamour he and Peta have “a special relationship” and they’re both single (and friends) so they were cool with kissing each other in their Tango, like they did last night.

Are you disappointed to see James and Peta are no longer in contention for the Mirror Ball trophy? At least we’ll still see them dance tonight — and maybe we’ll see these two out together after the show. You never know. They do seem close.

The DWTS Season 18 Finale airs Tuesday, May 20 from 9 to 11 p.m. ET on ABC.
