We know that there are many reasons for television stars to rub elbows when out and about in Hollywood, but it always seems to blow our minds when we see two of our favorite stars together. This is more-or-less what happened when we saw this photo of The Vampire Diariesstar Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore) hanging with James Purefoy. What were these two television favorites up to?

The picture tweet in question is actually a re-tweet director Marcos Siega originally shared during Comic-Con in July — aka one of the biggest collisions of television and films stars you will ever see. Marcos hilariously retweeted the picture of himself with Paul and James earlier this week, with the caption: “So many retweets about Paul's arm & no one mentions that I'm sandwiched between Stefan Salvatore & Joe Carroll.”

Marcos is, of course, referring to Paul’s on-screen alter ego on TVD and James’ current role as Dr. Joe Carroll, a serial killer on Fox’s The Following. (The hunky British actor is also known for his role as Mark Antony on HBO’s Rome.) And, if we were Marcos, we wouldn’t be able to believe our luck, either. Being squished between an often-insatiable vampire and a creepy serial killer might seem dangerous, but have you seen these two? It would definitely be worth the risk.

Are you surprised to see Paul and James together? What do you think of Paul Wesley’s arm? Sound off in the comments below!

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
