James Van Der Beek Takes Lead Role in CSI: Cyber

The man behind Dawson Leery is going back to drama. Deadline announced Dawson's Creek star James Van Der Beek will play a lead role in this winter's CSI: Cyber, the latest show in the long-running crime procedural franchise.

CSI: Cyber, whose backdoor pilot episode aired as an installment of CSI last season, features Medium star Patricia Arquette as Special Agent Avery Ryan of the FBI's Cyber Crime Division. She works to track down criminals whose illegal activities start on the internet.

Now, James is joining the cast as FBI Agent Elijah Mundo, "an expert in battlefield forensics recruited by [Agent] Ryan for his war efforts in Afghanistan. A self-proclaimed action junkie, Mundo often will put himself at risk to seek permanent justice, while Ryan will level his diehard behavior with her expertise in psychology. Together, they will fight the world's toughest cyber crimes."

Patricia and James have worked together before; he guest-starred on Medium in 2009. The duo's Cyber co-stars so far include Peter MacNicol (Ally McBeal) and Charley Koontz (Community).

The 37-year-old actor most recently starred in the comedies Don't Trust the B— in Apartment 23 and Friends With Better Lives, but now that he's back to the dramatic side of TV, perhaps we'll see his infamous cry face again!
