Once Upon a Time’s Jamie Chung Wants Glee’s Harry Shum Jr. as Love Interest — Exclusive

Once Upon a Time is notorious for keeping plot secrets locked down tight, and the details surrounding the Season 3 premiere are no exception. Though we have a synopsis and some spoilery photos from the September 29 opener, everything else about the trio of lands (Neverland, Storybrooke, and the Enchanted Forest) is well-hidden.

However, that didn’t stop us from grilling star Jamie Chung (Mulan) about what’s to come at the SEGA Go Dance game launch on September 5. After she and her OUAT cohorts Sarah Bolger (Aurora) and Julian Morris (Prince Phillip) were spotted filming in Vancouver this summer, we knew they’d be back, but we were unsure of in what capacity. Thanks to new intel, it’s clear that Mulan will be helping Neal get back to his family, but how long will she stay?

When asked about her permanence on the show, Jamie noted she’ll be “off-and-on,” which is partially due to production on her new NBC show Believe starting on September 30 in NYC. While she can confirm that she met and rescued Neal in the Season 2 finale — though the actual actress on-screen was a stand-in since she couldn’t come to film the scene — she won’t dish if she meets anyone new, like Ariel or Tinker Bell.

“I don’t go to another realm,” she pointed out, which definitely takes Neverland residents out of the picture. Plus, she hinted that Neal is the only “new” person she met as Mulan. Nevertheless, she says “Season 3 is amazing, and it just gets better and better.”

As for what or who will make the season so great? Jamie doesn’t know, because co-creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis won’t even give them full scripts!

“It’s just really locked down!” she explained.

If she could dream up the future for the show, she’d “love to see more characters from the Mulan franchise” — especially her love interest, Captain Li Shang.

While many fans have dream-casted Lost’s Daniel Dae Kim as Li, Jamie has another actor in mind. When we floated the idea of Glee’s Harry Shum Jr. stepping into the role, she was all for it.

Oh my God, Harry would be amazing! I’d love to see him in a suit of armor,” she exclaimed. “I love Harry, he’s such a good guy.” And when he mentioned his muscles? She enthusiastically said, “Aww, yeah, girl!” Enough said.

We could definitely see Harry as Captain Li — what about you, Oncers? Vote in the reaction buttons below, and catch the OUAT premiere on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
