The divorce proceedings between former Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel and estranged husband Jason Hoppy continue to get uglier and uglier. Though the couple announced their separation over a year and a half ago, they’re still duking it out in court over the custody of daughter Bryn, 4, and Bethenny’s testimony this week was revealingly dark.
In a NYC courtroom on May 28, the Skinnygirl mogul delivered her statement, which included her recounting a pretty scary conversation the two had after Bethenny told Jason she wanted a divorce.
As the New York Daily News reports, Bethenny testified that Jason told her, "If you don't want to be with me and you're ending this marriage, I want nothing to do with you ever again. I'm going to destroy you."
The reason she’s airing the dirty laundry so publicly? The former reality star maintains that she is unable to share custody with her ex due to his clear contempt for her.
"He said, ‘You're dead to me. I want nothing to do with you. You think I want to be with you on the holidays? You're a piece of s—t. You're garbage. You have no idea what I've got on you,” Bethenny continued for the courts. Eek!
Now, we know that anyone can be guilty of saying some pretty terrible things when they’re being dumped — Bethenny filed for divorce first — and emotions run high when a relationship comes to an end. Even the talk show host herself admits she called Jason “white trash” and accused him of being “all about the money.” But it would certainly be tough to co-parent with someone who still has such anger toward you.
Bethenny is currently asking for primary custody and sole decision-making rights for Bryn, while Jason is willing to share custody. Jason’s lawyer is also acting on the offensive, telling the courts that Bethenny used “the child as a prop… in the pursuit of her own career and her own brand.” Wow.
With all of this back and forth, we just hope Bryn isn’t feeling the affects at home. The adorable gal deserves to have a relationship with both parents, and a happy childhood to boot.
