Jean-Claude Van Damme’s Son Arrested For Holding Roommate at Knifepoint
Jean-Claude Van Damme’s son must think he’s some kind of badass.
But unlike his son, apparently, Jean-Claude saves the threats of physical violence for the screen.
21-year-old Nicholas Van Varenberg was arrested after allegedly holding his roommate at knifepoint, and it’s an odd tale…
Jean-Claude Van Damme is a Belgian action star and martial artist you might recognize from his roles in Street Fighter, Universal Soldier, Timecop, and The Expendables 2.
Nicholas may be following in his father’s footsteps — he has a role alongside his pops in this year’s Kickboxer: Retaliation, the latest installment in the cult-classic Kickboxer franchise.
Nicholas is his youngest of Jean-Claude’s three children — JCVD and actress Darcy LaPier, his partner at the time, welcomed him in 1995.
(FYI, Jean-Claude had an affair with Darcy while he was still married to bodybuilder Gladys Portugues, but they broke up because he had an affair with actress-singer Kylie Minogue.)
Anyway, TMZ reports Nicholas was arrested on Sunday, September 10, in Tempe Arizona.
According to the site’s law enforcement sources, cops were called to Nicholas’s apartment building after he punched an elevator. (We’re sure the elevator did something to deserve it.)
That’s just the start of the story, though…
The cops found a trail of blood leading to Nicholas’s unit, and when they spoke to him and his roommate, they saw he was sporting an injured hand.
Then the cops left, TMZ says, but 20 minutes later, the roommate came running downstairs, saying Nicholas had held him at knifepoint.
Why? Apparently, Nicholas was angry with his roomie for opening the door to talk to the cops.
It’s not hard to understand why Nicholas might have been nervous to have the authorities around, though.
When the cops searched Nicholas’s apartment, they found the knife in question… along with marijuana, TMZ reports.
Meanwhile, Jean-Claude’s life has never been so dramatic — at least, not in the public eye.
The actor was arrested for DUI in 1999, but he kicked a cocaine habit and then got back together with Gladys, and his life seems to have been smooth sailing ever since.
Nick, however, is facing a world of trouble.
He was booked for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful imprisonment, marijuana possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Moral of the story: Don’t punch elevators, and certainly don’t hold anyone at knifepoint.
