Watch Jena Irene Sing “Creep” in American Idol 2014 Top 7 — April 16, 2014
Let’s just put it out there: Last week of American Idol wasn’t the greatest we’ve seen so far. Sure, Harry Connick Jr. put an unexpecting teenager on his shoulders, but as far as performances were concerned, most of the contestants could have done better.
Tonight (April 16), the Top 7 will be taking the stage once again, and we certainly hope they kick it up a notch. Now that the one and only save has been used on Sam Woolf, there’s no room for error to keep the hopefuls from that dreaded elimination. We’ve watched as the contestants have chosen their own songs week after week, but this time it’s a first in Idol history. Tonight, the hopefuls have been tasked with choosing songs for the other contenders to perform. It could prove to be one of the most interesting themes we’ve ever seen... or it could go horribly awry if the contestants secretly tried to sabotage one another.
Last to take the stage is Jena Irene Asciutto, who continues to put her signature spin on every song she sings. This time she’s taking on “Creep” by Radiohead, a tune hand-selected for her by her pal Caleb Johnson. Caleb promises that Jena will be able to deliver a powerful and theatrical version of tune, which (unsurprisingly!) is exactly what she does.
“I loved it!” says Keith. “I love your fearlessness. I love how bold you are. I love how you own the song. I wish I could spend more time talking, but I guarantee I’m gonna get more time next week!”
“You are a phenomenal talent,” adds Harry. “You sing with great humility, great intrigue. Unquestionably the best performance of the night. You’re extraordinarily talented. I think you did some major damage tonight.”
