Jenelle revisits a time when Barbara told a then-teenaged Jenelle to go out with her friends so she could "relax."

She and Tori went out and when they returned home, she found CPS in her driveway.

"My mother had called them and told them I was out partying all night and left my son at home," she recalls.

"She told them I did this pretty much every night, which was a lie. I tried to tell them she told me to go out, but they wouldn’t listen. They gave my mother temporary custody in light my actions. MY mother had set me up and I had fallen hard for it."

In the book, Jenelle recalls a particular instance when a fight she and ex-fianceé Gary Head had turned physical.

She found the ex-Marine hanging out with a bevy of women at a club, and when she confronted him about it, he got violent.

"The next thing I knew, I couldn’t breathe. Gary had attacked me. He jumped from the bed, looped his blanket around my throat and pulled it tight," she writes.

"He kept screaming at me to stop crying while choking me the whole time. Just when I thought I was going to pass out, or even outright die, he finally released me."

“I ended up with bruises everywhere. I don’t know how long he would’ve gone on hitting me if the police hadn’t arrived.”

Jenelle's diaries outline a few instances in which she thought about taking her own life, once while dating "William" and another one later to piss off her mom.

“Another cry for attention, I am certain of it,” she writes of the entry dated April 29, 2006.

“This time I got the attention I wanted when [my friend] told William about the plan. It upset him and he decided enough was enough. He was tired of investing time in a girl who thought trying to kill herself were just things to try out for the fun of it.”
