This weekend, Jersey Shore fan fave JWOWW gave birth to her first child with fiancé Roger Mathews, a little girl named Meilani. That's not the traditional moniker some fans may have expected. So, where did Jenni and Roger come up with the name?
Back in February Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with JWOWW and Roger at JWOWW's birthday party, and even then, Meilani was a frontrunner for their daughter's name.
As JWOWW told us then, they were considering several names, but every choice had one thing in common: uniqueness. JWOWW explained that they were looking for names that would stand out — but at the same time, they didn't want to go over the top. "Not like, weird unique, or Hollywood names like 'Mirror.' Real names."
Roger dished to us about Meilani specifically, explaining that it's a Hawaiian word that is also the middle name of pro surfer Bethany Hamilton, who is known for surviving a shark attack where she lost her arm. JWOWW and Bethany both tested their bravery on the show Stars In Danger: The High Dive, where they met and became friends.
According to Quick Baby Names Meilani technically means "dark-skinned beauty," but we have a feeling JWOWW and Roger were more focused on how pretty the name is, and perhaps the fact that it was inspired by someone they have a personal connection with.
Congrats to the new parents!
