Jennifer Aniston Wants Lea Michele to Play Rachel in Friends: The Musical — Report
Will Rachel soon be played by... Rachel? Word has it that a Friends musical could be headed to Broadway, with Jennifer Aniston lobbying for Lea Michele (Rachel) to play her role from the iconic '90s TV series. Could we be any more excited about this?
Radar Online reports that, although Jennifer has not been in favor of a Friends movie or TV reunion, she does think that a Friends musical could be a huge hit on the Great White Way.
"Jen has completely fallen in love with the idea of a Broadway-ready Friends musical," says a source. "It’s even gotten to the point where she’s had some deep talks with her friend Sheryl Crow about creating ’90s style music for the project, which of course would feature an entirely new crop of actors playing young versions of the now 40-something Friends stars."
And Jen apparently wants Lea as Rachel. "Jen has told friends that Glee singing powerhouse Lea Michele would make the perfect Rachel in this project, and it simply becomes a matter of convincing Jen’s good friend, Warner Bros. executive Peter Roth, of the viability of the idea," adds the source.
If there's a good script and cast, we can't imagine that it would be tough to get a Friends musical made, especially if Lea were attached. After all, Friends reruns continue to be quite popular in syndication, and Glee even did its own Friends homage earlier this season. Make it happen, Jen!
Do you think a Friends musical would be popular? And would Lea be good as Rachel?
