Jennifer Hudson Cries Remembering Late Nephew at Do Something Awards
Everyone's favorite American Idol alum Jennifer Hudson has been through a lot since she catapulted to fame on the reality competition show.
If you remember correctly, the singer's mother Darnell, brother Jason, and nephew Julian were all shot to death back in October 2008 by Julia's (Jennifer's sister) estranged husband William Balfour.
At last night's 2013 VH1 Do Something Awards in Hollywood, J-Hud got emotional when being honored for her work with the Julian D. King Gift Foundation, a charitable organization she created in memory of her late nephew.
Just as soon as the promo video about Jennifer's work with the organization ended, Ne-Yo presented the award to J-Hud, and she immediately became emotional.
"Wow, I wasn't gonna cry but I'm a cry baby, so I can't help it!" After composing herself, the American Idol star went on, "It's one thing to be a celebrity, but it's another thing to make a change."
She dedicated the award to her sister Julia and her late son Julian. The Julian D. King Gift Foundation provides "stability and positive experiences for children of all backgrounds so that they may grow to become productive, confident and happy adults." Each year, the organization hosts a "Hatch Day" event for people to give school supplies to inner city kids.
"Thank you #DSAwards & @VH1 for the recognition," Hudson tweeted.
