Jennifer Hudson in Talks to Join American Idol 2014 Judging Panel: Report
Rumors have been flying about who will join the American Idol 2014 judging panel, and most signs have pointed toward Fox courting former winners and breakout contestants.
Among the names being bandied about have been Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson, Season 4 champ Carrie Underwood, and Season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert.
But according to The Wrap, it’s Season 3 finalist Jennifer Hudson who is reportedly closest to cutting a deal with the show.
“She got the offer and her reps are currently negotiating with [the show’s production company] Freemantle,” said an insider.
Jennifer Hudson sang a duet with American Idol 2013 winner Candice Glover during the Season 12 finale, and producers think bringing back a popular former contestant could bring back loyal viewers.
“The show’s feel they’ve lost their core audience,” the source said. “They know they’ve made some major mistakes over the past few seasons, and they want to make it right with their fans.”
With Randy Jackson definitely out for 2014 and Nicki Minaj rumored to also be out the door, that leaves Keith Urban and Mariah Carey to hold down the judge’s table. Keith has said he would love to come back for another season of American Idol, but Mariah’s future looks less certain.
According to Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly, “Everything is on the table” in terms of giving the long-running singing contest a huge makeover.
Would you watch American Idol with Jennifer Hudson as a judge? Which other former contestants would you like to see join her?
