Is Jennifer Lawrence Blaming Donald Trump for Hurricanes Harvey & Irma?
Jennifer Lawrence just waded into the Mother! of all political divides.
In a new interview, the Oscar winner comments on climate change deniers and, not unrelatedly, President Donald Trump.
And now, some Twitter users think she’s blaming devastating hurricanes like Harvey and Irma on the current POTUS…
To be fair, Jennifer never said anything to explicitly connect the dots in such a way, but critics on social media — especially conservative ones — are reading between the lines.
And they seem convinced J.Law thinks Trump caused these deadly storms.
In fact, some are even calling for a boycott of her new film, Mother!
In an interview posted online on September 6, Channel 4 presenter Jackie Long asked Jen about comments director Darren Aronofsky — who happens to be Jen’s boyfriend — made about their psychological thriller.
At the Venice Film Festival, Darren told reporters the film is so dark because “it’s a mad time to be alive” — and Jen agrees with that assessment of this era.
“It’s scary, this new language that’s forming,” she said.
“I don’t even recognize it.”
“It’s also scary to know, that climate change is due to human activity, and we continue to ignore it, and the only voice that we really have is through voting,” she continued.
“And we voted, and it was really startling.”
Then Jen addressed the volatile weather: “You know, you’re watching these hurricanes now, and it’s hard especially while promoting this movie, not to feel mother nature’s rage and wrath.”
“It’s really polarizing and upsetting,” the actress said of the state of politics in the United States.
“You know, I’ve heard things and seen things on TV in my own country that devastate me and make me sick, and it’s just really confusing.”
Jackie asks her if she thinks Trump is confusing, and Jen smirks.
“I don’t find him confusing,” she responds, coolly. “I think I know exactly what he is.”
Predictably, these comments whipped Twitter into a frenzy.
“Another mentally-ill leftie!” tweeted @RHBlythe99.
The deranged thinking of people like Jennifer Lawrence, who is living in a self induced hysteria bubble, is something to behold.John Frank (@John_Frank1954) September 8, 2017
“Dumbass Hollyweird,” wrote @1CathySutter.
“#BOYCOTT #JenniferLawrence new #Mother movie,” added @dawnellemurray. “Make it SINK LIKE A ROCK.”
Meanwhile, NASA reports that 16 of the 17 warmest years on record occurred since 2001, that 2016 was the warmest year on record bar none, and that eight months last year ranked as the warmest on record for those respective months.
“The current warming trend is of particular significance because most of it is extremely likely (greater than 95 percent probability) to be the result of human activity since the mid-20th century and proceeding at a rate that is unprecedented over decades to millennia,” the agency states.
And Dr. Michael E. Mann, Professor of Atmospheric Science at Penn State, tells NPR, “The science is now fairly clear that climate change will make stronger storms stronger.”
Just wait until you hear what Trump says about climate change, though…
"The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive,” our current president tweeted in 2012.
So what do you think now? Is J.Law a “mentally-ill leftie”? Or just speaking the truth? Let us know in the comments below.
