The ingredients to creating the perfect movie are pretty simple: Good script, awesome plot, a well put together set, and Jennifer Lawrence. Seriously, when has she ever starred in anything that we didn’t immediately fall in love with? And now that Jen’s proved herself to be instrumental in any movie studio’s recipe for success, the people behind X-Men are considering letting her take the spotlight.
X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner is ready to take the franchise to the next level, and for her, this means it’s spin-off time.
“There was a regime [at the studio] that didn’t see the worth in [spin-offs], and the current people who run Fox understand, embrace it, and we’re going to do right by it,” Lauren tells Entertainment Weekly. “I’d like to do Gambit. I’d like to do Deadpool. We’ll see. There’s a lot of really great characters.”
And while J.Law’s Mystique didn’t make that list, writer and producer Simon Kinberg is all about giving her a chance to shine independently of the bigger casts of the more traditional X-Men movies.
“I love what Jen Lawrence has done with her, and I feel like because she is in such a crowded ensemble, there’s so much more opportunity if you were to follow her solo,” Simon says.
Ready to see J.Law as Mystique all over again? X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters May 23.
