Jennifer Lopez Won’t Deny Return to American Idol; Compares Show to the Mafia!
While the American Idol world was abuzz with talk that Mariah Carey was being replaced mid-season this year with former judge Jennifer Lopez, J-Lo still refuses to confirm or deny whether she’ll return to the panel. While she said there’s a certain “been there, done that” feel to it, she left the door open for the possibility in a recent interview with BBC Radio 1.
"I feel like it's in the past for me," the “Live It Up” singer said. "But I don't know — they're a little bit like the Mafia with it! They drag you back in just when you thought you were out!"
Rumors about who will be seating at the judges table when all is said and done for season 13 have been all over the map. On top of the J-Lo rumors, there has been talk of Harry Connick, Jr. going from mentor to judge. Season 12 judge Keith Urban has expressed interest in returning, although he says he hasn't heard anything on whether it will happen. There was the over-the-top notion of a “dream team” that included P!nk, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Hudson, and Sean “Diddy” Combs. We just have one thing to say about that panel: Ca-freaking-ching.
The latest rumor, and the one that seems to have the most staying power, is that producers are going for an all-alum panel that might include, Adam Lambert, Jennifer Hudson, Clay Aiken, and Kelly Clarkson. Adam has already expressed interest, although we’re not so sure about Clay. While we can see them going the all-alum route, Kelly has already said in a past interview that she would never do it, as she doesn’t think she could dole out the criticism — and her reps have reportedly said it is a no go.
And what of J-Hud saying the show should have gone out last season, while it was on top? Apparently there’s no harm, no foul, in that comment, as she’s already reportedly been signed on to fill the first empty seat.
So many questions, so little time! Who would you like to see at the judges table for American Idol 2014?
