If you're wondering what producer would cast Jennifer Lopez, a Puerto Rican-American, to play Barbadian Rihanna's mother in a movie, shame on you! It's 2013!

Just kidding. We were surprised, too, until we learned that the film is animated.

The movie is Home, and DreamWorks Animation is basing it off The True Meaning of Smekday, a 2011 children's book by Adam Rex. Tim Johnson will direct the flink, having previously helmed Antz and Over the Hedge.

As The Wrap reports, Comedy legend Steve Martin will provide the voice of Captain Smek, the leader of a race of aliens called the Boov who colonize Earth and exile us humans elsewhere, certain that they're doing us a favor.

Rihanna will voice a girl who evades this exile and teams up with a rogue Boov (played by The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons). And yes, J.Lo will play her character's mom.

(We can only imagine that Jennifer and RiRi will team up for a song on the Home soundtrack.)

Jen has a much more illustrious film career than Rihanna so far, though the Rated R singer has taken roles in Battleship and This Is the End

We'll see how well the two pop stars play mother-daughter when the film comes out in November 2014.
