We fans of Jennifer Lopez got a nasty scare earlier this week when #RIPJenniferLopez started trending on Twitter. While of course it’s nowhere near as official as say a death certificate, Twitter’s got a habit of being on top of all the latest news and most particularly celebrity deaths. So was that hashtag true?
Thankfully, not at all! The 44-year-old mother of two is alive and well and, last we heard, set to take her customary seat behind the judges’ table during tomorrow night’s new American Idol. We’re not sure why that particular hashtag got to trending — maybe as a joke, maybe as something more malicious— but whatever the reason, we’re just happy J.Lo’s OK!
Of course, Jenny from the Block is hardly the only celebrity to fall victim to this kind of online death hoax. In the past few months alone, we’ve had our hearts race and palms grow sweaty from similar false alarms involving the likes of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and One Direction's Zayn Malik.
Hollywood already has a bad history of losing talented people at too young an age. Why would we want to even joke about losing someone like J.Lo?!
