Jennifer Lopez may luh you, papi, but her fans aren’t in luh with her new album. A.K.A. is reportedly tanking in sales despite the American Idol judge’s huge press tour, including a performance at the World Cup opening ceremonies.
The way Rob Shuter of VH1 series The Gossip Table tells it, Jennifer’s latest studio album sold less than 40,000 albums in its first week; The Wrap suspects that number’s even lower, closer to 25,000 or 30,000 total units sold.
Either way, we’re looking at less than half of the 83,000 her previous album sold in Week No. 1 and that one, called Love?, was considered a dud. Still, Love? did rally to sell more than 300,000 copies in the U.S. and single “On the Floor” hit No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 so maybe there’s hope yet for A.K.A. Maybe...
Jenny From the Block has at least one fan rooting for A.K.A. to score big: ex-boyfriend Casper Smart. Casper gave the album a big thumbs up on Twitter despite his and Jenny’s recent breakup. Way to take the high road, guy!
Jennifer shouldn’t be too bummed about the low sales. It’s not like she’s alone in the world of underperforming divas. Mariah Carey’s latest release is also struggling, selling fewer 60,000 units during its debut week. Keep your chins up, ladies! There’s alway best hit albums to look forward to.
