If anyone knows the power of hashtags, it’d be Justin Timberlake. You know what we’re talking about, Jimmy Fallon fans. Unfortunately for JT, a recent Instagram post stirred up all kinds of feedback.
Two days ago Justin posted a photo of himself leaning his head against the Western Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem. It’s a place of important cultural and religious value for millions of people the world over. It also happens to be smack-dab in the middle of one of the globe’s most hotly contested areas.
Here’s what Justin wrote about the pic: “The Holy Land... What an experience. I will never forget this day. #Israel.” Seems innocent enough except for that final hashtag; when Justin identified his location as “#Israel” the comments on the photo got real heated, real fast.
Some folks pointed out that Justin was actually in Palestine while others insisted Jerusalem belongs in Israel. It’s millennia of contention boiled down into Insta form and not a ring Justin seems particularly interested to throwing his fedora in (not that we blame him). His next post was decidedly more light-hearted.
“So funny, @jimmyfallon. I was just telling someone how my name was on your balls. #regram,” he captioned the photo of Jimmy’s customized golf balls. At least there’s one thing we can all agree on: the perfection of Jimmy and Justin’s bromance.
