Midway through Jersey Shore Season 5, after a particularly jarring episode in which The Situation appeared hypomanic (Season 5, Episode 5: “Nothing But Nice”), we asked you if you thought the cast was on drugs (42% said “Definitely.”) In light of the recent reports that The Situation is in rehab, we wondered if there were more signs that Mike was in trouble. Here are some examples.

He wasn’t headed to MTV Spring Break locations. Despite the other castmates making appearances in either Cancun or Las Vegas to co-host various MTV Spring Break specials, there wasn’t any news of a Situation-hosted show or event. As we reported yesterday (March 20), Deena Nicole, Sammi, Ronnie, Vinny, Pauly D, Snooki, and JWOWW were all tweeting and being photographed in preparation for their Spring Break gigs. Was The Situation excluded because of his personal issues?

He was acting really bizarre and hyped up on the show. Aside from the aforementioned manic episode, The Situation showed signs of isolation throughout Season 5. He would often retreat to his room to sleep and snore the day away while the rest of the gang went to Jenk’s. And speaking of Jenk’s, whenever he did show up, he would find a random motley crew of unknown guys to be shady with, instead of hanging out with his roommates.

He hadn’t said anything about lost love Snooki’s pregnancy and engagement. While every Jersey Shore castmate has commented on Snooki’s pregnant belly and new fiance with good wishes and joy, The Situation has remained on radio silence. Of course, his previous destructive crush on Snooki could explain him holding a grudge, but this is one big family we’re talking about.

His best friend was arrested for hard drug possession. As we’ve reported extensively, The Unit was arrested outside of the Jersey Shore house last summer for drug possession. When we watched that night unfold on the show (Season 5, Episode 9: “The Truth Will Set You Free”), we couldn’t help but notice that Mike was hanging out almost exclusively with The Unit that night at Karma, and they were both sweating profusely. With friends like that...

His disastrous Australian tour. The Situation was all excited about his DJing gigs in Melbourne and Sydney earlier this month. But reports quickly came out that he was over-spending, booking too many hotel rooms (double-booking in some instances), and didn’t look like himself throughout the trip. His face looked puffy, and he didn’t have that magic spark we loved in early Jersey Shore seasons. And that wasn’t his only out-of-sorts promotional appearance. Remember those crazy karate kicks and Tae Bo moves he displayed around New Year’s on the red carpet?

No matter what’s going on with Mike, and despite the hard time we and the castmates have given him this past year, we really hope he gets all the help he needs.

Catch the reunion special for Jersey Shore on Thursday, March 22 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.
