It’s the end of an era. Jersey Shore Season 6 will be the final season of the MTV show we all fell in love with (or, at least, couldn’t look away from) back in 2009. But what does this mean for the eight guidos and guidettes who became instant stars thanks to the show? Can their current fame survive without the show as a biannual reminder of who they are and why we care?
Let’s take a look at each castmate individually to see how they can make their star status last.
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi
It’s fair to say that Snooki is the breakout star of Jersey Shore. Not only is the 4’9” meatball an internationally recognized name, but she seems to loom much larger than the show that made her famous. She represents a refreshing breed of reality star who is unfiltered, always shocking, heavily involved with social media, and somehow manages to come off as accessible to fans.
Now that Snooki is the proud mom of Lorenzo, there are several major projects for her to look forward to. Snooki & JWOWW Season 2 has already begun filming; Snooki still has her marriage to Jionni LaValle to plan and most likely film; she has over 5.6 million followers on Twitter, most of whom will remain glued to her every move with our without Jersey Shore; and she has countless clothing lines, beverage lines, makeup products, fragrances, baby lines, and footwear collections to promote.
Staying power (measured in years): 2 to 3 more years until animal print fatigue sets in
Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino
The Situation got into the celebrity endorsement world early, getting hooked up with a manager and booking appearances after Season 1. But his current stable of products aren’t exactly high-wattage. Plus, as much as fans may enjoy watching his pratfalls and tirades on Jersey Shore, his new sober lifestyle (while praiseworthy and inspiring) may turn out to disappoint regular viewers tuning in to Season 6. Without the crazy behavior, is The Situation buzzworthy?
Mike is currently appearing on Celebrity Big Brother UK, where he is a fan favorite. So it’s possible he could extend his fame to various international audiences. But we suggest he steer clear of Australia.
Staying power: 1 ½ years
DJ Pauly DelVecchio
Pauly D is one of the only Jersey Shore stars who actually works for a living. He has several resident DJ positions, including his post at The Palms Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, and he has a contract with 50 Cent’s production company. His merchandise includes the standard T-shirt company, and his glam headphones.
The Pauly D Project has yet to be renewed for a second season, which would definitely extend his celebrity. If his spin-off discontinues, however, he may quietly segue into becoming a major star in the DJ world.
Staying power: 1 year
Jenni “JWOWW” Farley
JWOWW has the advantage of being one half of a successful Jersey Shore spin-off with BFF Snooki. With a second season of Snooki & JWOWW already filming, JWOWW knows she’ll be on TV in the post-JS future. And it’s possible that, wherever Snooki’s fame goes, she goes. She is going to be Lorenzo’s “godmother” after all.
Aside from the MTV gigs, JWOWW can still rack up major moolah for her appearances at events and photo shoots for various publications. Plus, she has her bikini line, her fragrance and tanning lines, and a very popular lifestyle blog. We could see JWOWW trying her hand at hosting a TV show, maybe even trying out for the new, revamped House of Style.
Staying power: 2 years
Sammi “Sweetheart” Giancola
Very recently, Sammi announced her plans to debut her fitness line at New York Fashion Week in September. Sammi also has her successful fragrances to promote, and she’s stated that she would love to work in the health and fitness industry.
Of course, Sammi might want to consider her own spin-off show with boyfriend Ronnie. Since they’re moving in with each other soon, these two could wind up having a built-in MTV show just by cohabitating.
Staying power: 1 to 2 years
Ronnie “Ron Ron” Magro
Ronnie went into full-on worker mode this year, releasing his beverage line of Ron Ron Juice mixers, and opening up his own Shore Store in his old neighborhood in The Bronx. As we mentioned above, Ronnie and Sammi could prolong their fame fade-out by filming their new life together. We know we would watch SamRon sharing a New York apartment for at least a season!
Staying power: 1 to 2 years
Vinny’s main role outside of Jersey Shore has been as an author and spokesperson. As someone who suffers from Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Vin has become an active speaker on the subject, and his book Control the Crazy: My Plan to Stop Stressing, Avoid Drama and Maintain Your Inner Cool seems like the perfect foundation to turn a previously private disorder into a serious career.
Staying power: 1 year
Deena Nicole Cortese
She may have started late, but Deena Nicole will end her Jersey Shore career with a bang. Already a fan favorite, Deena has parlayed her on-screen eccentricity into an endearing off-screen persona. So far, she only seems to be earning money through her hair care line, Wisper. But we’re sure Deena will get paid for appearances throughout the rest of the year.
Staying power: 1 year, but it could be longer depending on what her next move is
