The University of Chicago is known for its top-rated medical school, one of the world's best economic departments, and... hosting academic conferences about Jersey Shore?

That's right. The highly anticipated Jersey Shore academic conference rolled around this weekend, and as the New York Times reports, it went well.

Jersey Shore fans and cultural critics gathered at one of the most prestigious universities in the country this weekend to discuss such topics as Deena's roll as a "trickster figure,"  the impact of the show on the Shore's economy, the show's reflexivity and self-awareness, and how it all relates back to Marx.

And to think, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie thinks the show doesn't reflect well on his state. He clearly underestimated the ability of academia to find deep meaning in anything.
